It's hard to pinpoint the time or place that any o It's hard to pinpoint the time or place that any of us became aware of the Everly Brothers. They were just there. Their influence was direct (especially for Craig and George), but it also came filtered through any number of bands we grew up listening to; the Beatles not being least of them. Without Phil and Don, we may have never heard a John and Paul. That's reason enough to mourn their loss. RIP, Don (and Phil, who went before you). You earned your rest, and your music will live on. Thank you both for sharing your talent with the world.

We like the Faces feel and the summer vibe of Ain't it Sad.

But wait, you think ... Didn't we just hear this o But wait, you think ... Didn't we just hear this one? Not this version!

From our inception, acoustic guitars have been a part of our sound as a band. When we started performing "unplugged" gigs we would go through our songs and see which ones lent themselves to an all acoustic setting. Every once in a while we found ourselves liking those versions even more than the originals. So along the same lines, our latest "Covid Clip" got the acoustic treatment almost immediately (though it may have been at the direction of a band wife or two... the single guy writing this isn't quite sure). #80s #90s #indie #indierock #provomusic #indiemusic #rockmusic #alternativerock
New song debut! Dale has been performing “Baby New song debut!

Dale has been performing “Baby” in Idaho with his friends Layne Ward and Michael Corbett (the song’s writer) and liked it so well he pitched it to the Audrey boys for inclusion on Audrey Smilley’s upcoming full length release, Hiraeth. We’d love to know what you think of it, so please leave remarks in the comments below. Also, if you like "Baby," we’d appreciate it if you could share the song on whatever platform strikes your fancy.

Special thanks to Layne Ward for providing back up vocals. From what we hear, Michael might not be expecting this at all. Hope you like it, sir! #indiemusic #indierock #provomusicscene #provomusic #80s #90s
George added this New York Dolls song to our quara George added this New York Dolls song to our quarantine list months ago, creating a scratch drum part and laying down the bass line, but that was as far as we got. Last week's news of the death of Sylvain Sylvain prompted us to step up and finish this one in his honor.

It was as fun to record as it was the first time we heard it (on the band's 2006 reunion album). RIP, Syl, and thank you for reminding us how much joy one band can inspire.

Craig and Shauna are celebrating 34 years of marri Craig and Shauna are celebrating 34 years of marriage today. There isn't a symbol or traditional gift associated with the 34th anniversary, so Craig asked Dale, George, and Pete to help him record a musical tribute. A few years ago, Shauna said she considered "I Melt With You" as their song, so it only seemed proper to record this one to celebrate their anniversary.

As a band, we wish them another 34 years(and more) of laughs and continued happiness!

Back in our initial run, George fell in love about Back in our initial run, George fell in love about 8 times (on average) a year. Every once in a while, those dalliances were memorable enough to inspire a song or two. He started this one thinking about one girl and finished it thinking about another. And while neither of those relationships lasted, at least we got a song out of them!

Thanks, once again to Peter Carey for joining us on drums!

That always drove us crazy since none of us really listened to the band at all. But in fairness, they had some great songs. This is one of them. And once again, we're doing a cover of a cover.

And a big shout out and thank you to @pncarey for the great drums!

Momentum in a live show is everything. Bands often Momentum in a live show is everything. Bands often put tons of thought into creating a setlist that will keep the audience engaged and attentive. Too many ballads in a row and the audience gets bored. Too many same tempo songs and they get restless... Of course, things happen.
Anyone who's seen a few live bands knows that sometimes the guitarist (or even the bassist) can break a string. If it was a large band you probably saw a roadie rush out and trade out the guitar either between songs or even verses. Young bands with no money usually don't even have backup guitars, let alone roadies to run them out and save the day.
We may have realized this at our first gig. Definitely by the third. What do you do? You can't just say, "Hang tight, we'll be back in five minutes!" You hear that "BOING!" and immediately think, "Who's got a song to sing alone while I change this string?" We had three, so depending on whose string broke, one of those got sung. There's a good chance all three of our "Broken String Songs" will show up in this series, but the Candy Bar Song (from Peter, Paul and Mary) was, by far, Ros and Amy's favorite. #indiemusic #indierock #80s #80sMusic #90s #90sMusic #covid19 #quarantinemusic #peterpaulandmary #quarantinemusicsessions #covid19music
Craig had an amazing opportunity to participate in Craig had an amazing opportunity to participate in a songwriting roundtable hosted by Chris Difford of Squeeze. Chis and his songwriting partner (for his solo work) Boo Hewerdine spent an evening over Zoom reviewing the submissions with each songwriter.

The feedback was very positive and Craig was chosen to perform the song on July 4th during Chris' bi-weekly Zoom Concert. Each week, he picks a different charity to support. Satruday was the 28th anniversary of Chris' sobriety, so he selected Eric Clapton's Turn Up For Recovery as the beneficiary.

Craig performed the song in the show which also featured Chris and Shawn Colvin.

In 2017 we lost one of our mentors and spiritual a In 2017 we lost one of our mentors and spiritual advisors, Mr. Brent Johnson. Brent was the genius frontman and creator of the seminal deathrock band, Theatre of Ice, in which we were all privileged to write, record, and perform. Since his untimely death, we've not had a chance to perform together, but we've talked about dedicating a song to him at the next opportunity. Enter the plague, and the serendipitous opportunity it affords (that would be funny to Brent).
Continuing our tradition of covers of covers, here is our take on @thebandghost's cover of #RokyErickson's schizophrenia-inspired, "If You Have Ghosts.” This isn't a Theatre of Ice song, and we doubt Brent ever heard of it or of any of the musicians mentioned, but the first time we heard it, we knew it was for Brent. Wherever you are out there in the cosmos, Mr. Johnson, we hope you like this.
Love,

When we first started gigging, we played in a club When we first started gigging, we played in a club that didn't allow covers (so as not to run afoul of ASCAP/BMI licensing). The only problem was, we didn't have three hours of original material. No worries though, because even if we were trying, our covers sounded nothing like the originals. We snuck more in than anyone ever realized... But this time around (as our latest cover started coming together) we started hearing something that sounded awfully familiar. It still sounds like us, but we were pleasantly surprised by how much McGuinn and Crosby came through as well.
Special thanks this week go to Sam Skinner, who stepped in to provide drums before heading off to Boise State; on a drumming scholarship no less. Thank you, Sam, and break a leg in the fall!

This was originally a dad-song Dale wrote for his This was originally a dad-song Dale wrote for his oldest son, Jesse, when the boy was but a lad, and he's sung it at several different graduation extravagonzo's throughout the years.
Since Dale felt bad about missing his students' last quarter of high school and not being able to crank Alice Cooper and throw them out the door on the last day (like he usually does), he thought he could do a version of this for the Class of 2020. At some point in 1989, one of us (or maybe all thr At some point in 1989, one of us (or maybe all three) were at the Pie Pizzaria in SLC, and saw a couple guys tucked into a corner of the dining room, singing and playing their guitars. After learning that it was a thing, we launched a successful campaign to get on their roster, and enjoyed playing there a number of times while we were still in Utah. At least we didn't have to sorry about finding a drummer for these gigs!
The only thing in this clip that wasn't in the "Electric" Fence we posted a few weeks ago is the acoustic bass. Remove the drums and electric tracks and you have a song that's very different, yet just as powerful. Once again, thanks to Tahlee for the great archival footage of baby Audreys.

A few months after we started playing together, Cr A few months after we started playing together, Craig had occasion through work to visit a place called Provo Canyon School. It wasn't a learning facility per se, and the experience left its mark. After ruminating on it for a short time he brought this song to the band, which may be the first one we arranged together, in an afternoon spent as friends creating art that we could claim as our own.

Fast forward to our current project, and you will see that we still meet on the same plane, though we sometimes invite others into our small world to see what comes of their contribution. We were pleased this time around to welcome Scott Lupton into the fold. He created and played a drum part that breathed new life into this favorite song of ours, and beamed it all the way in from Tokyo, Japan. You might agree with us in thinking this is the best version of Fence Away we've ever played.

So once again, please enjoy Craig Moore on lead vocals (and composing). This week's song was such a pleasure we might even do it again sometime.
